PSG Thrash Man City 4-2 as Champions Chase Third Straight Champions League Title

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have strengthened their reputation as contenders for another Champions League crown after defeating Manchester City 4-2 on Wednesday. The victory highlighted the French champions’ attacking quality and raised expectations that they could win Europe’s biggest club competition for a third consecutive season.

Despite a slow start to their domestic campaign, Luis Enrique’s team showed their ability to reach another level when it matters most. Against Manchester City, PSG combined quick passing, intelligent movement and an aggressive press to overwhelm their opponents.

Football pundit Chris Sutton praised the Parisians’ performance, describing them as an outstanding team. He highlighted the intensity of their pressing and noted that even one of the Premier League’s strongest sides struggled to cope with their approach.

PSG’s recent success reflects a broader change in the club’s strategy. Since Qatar Sports Investments took over 15 years ago, the Parisian side has established itself as France’s dominant force through major investment and high-profile signings. However, winning the Champions League required a shift away from an approach centred on expensive superstar acquisitions.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi signalled the change by declaring an end to the club’s “glitter” era. The new direction focused more on building a balanced squad, with younger players who could develop under a clear tactical philosophy and the discipline demanded by Enrique.

Enrique, who joined PSG in 2023, helped shape the team around collective effort, movement and tactical organisation. Although the club continued to invest heavily, the emphasis shifted towards players who could fit into a coherent system rather than relying primarily on individual star power.

That approach delivered major European success, with PSG winning the Champions League in 2025 after defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. The latest victory over Manchester City has further strengthened belief in the team’s ability to remain among Europe’s elite.

With PSG now targeting another continental triumph, their blend of attacking flair, intense pressing and collective discipline could make them difficult opponents for any side. Their performance in Manchester has sent a clear warning to rival clubs, although maintaining that level throughout the competition will be essential to their hopes of making history.
