Osun Police Arrest Suspect Over Alleged Exhumation, Mutilation of Teenager’s Corpse

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Saheed Babalola, over the alleged exhumation and mutilation of the body of an 18-year-old girl in Feesu community, near Iwo, Osun State.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended after residents heard unusual sounds coming from the burial site where the teenager had been buried. Community members who went to investigate allegedly caught Babalola at the scene, while two other suspected accomplices reportedly escaped.

The incident occurred on Monday, a day after the teenager was buried within the premises of Olomo Compound in Feesu, where she reportedly lived with the suspect. According to the report, the girl died under circumstances described as unnatural on Sunday and was buried later that same day.

Babalola was said to have attended the burial alongside other mourners before allegedly returning to the site with two other men in the early hours of the following day. The trio allegedly exhumed the body and severed the victim’s head and wrist before residents discovered what was happening.

A resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said community members managed to apprehend one of the alleged perpetrators and handed him over to the police. The other two suspects reportedly fled before they could be caught.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said Babalola had been arrested and was cooperating with investigators. He confirmed that the suspect and the deceased lived at the same address in Olomo Compound, Feesu.

Ojelabi said officers from the Iwo Police Division initially arrested the suspect before transferring him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. He added that investigators had recovered the victim’s severed head and hand from the location where they were allegedly kept.

The police spokesman said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify other people allegedly involved. The two suspected accomplices remained at large according to the supplied report, while the police continued their efforts to clarify what happened.
