Bauchi Political Clash: 24-Year-Old Man Loses Wrist in Machete Attack

A 24-year-old man, Usman Idris, has reportedly had his wrist severed in a machete attack during a political clash in Bauchi metropolis. The incident occurred at about 11:30 am on Wednesday in the Bakin Kura area of the state capital.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, Idris was involved in an altercation with a man identified as Lawi before another individual, Mamman Gore, allegedly arrived with a machete and attacked him.

The attack left Idris seriously injured and unconscious. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment and reportedly responding to medical care.

The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. He said operatives attached to the A Division Township had arrested Lawi in connection with the attack.

However, the police said Gore, identified as the principal suspect, had fled after the incident. Efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest him, according to the command.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned political violence and thuggery in the state. He warned that the command would not tolerate actions capable of threatening public peace and security.

Aliyu urged residents to avoid violence and report suspicious activities to the police. The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order as efforts continued to apprehend the outstanding suspect.
