Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has addressed growing speculation surrounding the private life of late actor Alexx Ekubo, saying only the deceased actor’s family has the right to speak on such sensitive matters.
Uchemba, who shared a close friendship with Ekubo, spoke during an appearance on The Am Show, where he was asked about online conversations regarding the late actor’s alleged children and marital status.
Choosing his words carefully, the actor said he would not disclose any personal information Ekubo intentionally kept away from the public during his lifetime.
“Though I do not think I am in the place to say because if Alex did want it like that, I think I would respect it. I would respect his will and he wanted it that way,” Uchemba said during the interview.
He stressed that any clarification regarding Ekubo’s personal life should come directly from the family and not from friends or colleagues in the entertainment industry.
“If anything would come out from that, it would be his family. People have their decisions, some people would not want it out there or in the public. So, it is still best for his immediate family to say anything on it,” he added.
The comments come as social media users continue to debate reports and rumours surrounding whether the late Nollywood star had children or secretly maintained a family life away from public attention.
Ekubo’s family recently confirmed that the actor died at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after battling metastatic kidney cancer. The family also appealed for privacy as they mourn the actor’s passing.
Widely known for his roles in romantic dramas and comedy productions, Alexx Ekubo appeared in more than 100 Nollywood films and remained one of the industry’s most recognisable faces throughout his career.
