Amaechi Urges Nigerians to Stay at Polling Units Until Votes Are Counted, Results Uploaded

The vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has urged Nigerians not to leave their polling units immediately after voting in the 2027 general election.

Amaechi said voters should remain at their polling units until ballots have been counted and election results uploaded, arguing that their presence would help protect the integrity of the process.

He made the call on Friday during an interview on News Central TV, where he advised voters to monitor the counting process and demand transparency from electoral officials.

“On the day of election, in your ward and in your unit, you finish voting, you stand for the counting,” Amaechi said.

He alleged that politicians sometimes interfere with election results at polling units by taking away result sheets, a practice he said could also expose ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to danger.

“If there is a result sheet, we will queue up and when they finish counting, if you don’t upload it you are not going,” he added.

The former Rivers State governor stressed that voters should insist on seeing the result sheet, witnessing the counting and ensuring that the results are uploaded before leaving.

Amaechi also expressed confidence that the 2027 general election would be different, arguing that Nigerians had learnt lessons from previous electoral exercises.

He said the ADC was prepared to mobilise its supporters across the country to protect their votes and monitor the electoral process.
