Lagos Building Collapse: One Dead, Several Feared Trapped in Fadeyi

One person has died after a two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State on Friday, with several others feared trapped beneath the debris.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received a distress call about the collapse at 12:10 a.m., prompting the immediate activation of its Cobra Response Team from the Onipanu Base.
The emergency team arrived at the scene at 12:12 a.m. and found that the two-storey structure, which was still under construction, had collapsed.
LASEMA said preliminary observations suggested that construction workers might have been trapped beneath the wreckage, leading responders to begin search and rescue operations.
The agency’s permanent secretary said emergency personnel were working to locate and evacuate possible victims while putting safety measures in place to protect both those affected and the rescue teams.
As operations continued, responders were also trying to establish whether anyone else remained trapped under the debris. The agency had not confirmed the full number of people affected in the information provided.
The cause of the collapse was not stated in the report. Further details about the victims and the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected as rescue efforts progress.
