Two people have died and two others sustained serious injuries after a commercial Suzuki bus collided with a pickup van along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, in Lagos State. The crash prompted an emergency response from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which coordinated rescue operations at the scene.

LASTMA confirmed that the accident involved a Suzuki commercial bus with registration number KTU 333 YF and a pickup van. The circumstances that led to the collision were not immediately disclosed in the information provided by the authority.

Traffic management officials arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue efforts, secure the area and ensure that the victims were evacuated safely. The operation also involved arrangements for the deceased victims and the transfer of the injured survivors for medical treatment.

The two deceased victims were evacuated and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), popularly known as SHEMU. Meanwhile, the two injured survivors were taken to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention and further treatment.

Following the rescue operation, LASTMA officials handed over the vehicles involved in the collision and the Suzuki bus driver to security personnel from the Yaba Police Division. Police officers maintained security at the scene and helped preserve order until rescue and recovery activities were completed.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the loss of lives as deeply distressing. He also sympathised with their loved ones and wished the injured survivors a speedy and full recovery.

Bakare-Oki used the incident to stress the importance of responsible driving, urging motorists to remain alert, obey traffic regulations and observe prescribed speed limits. He warned that sustained concentration and caution were essential to preventing avoidable road crashes and their devastating consequences.

LASTMA also advised motorists to maintain safe distances between vehicles, avoid reckless manoeuvres and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy before travelling. The authority called on all road users to prioritise safety and respect human life, although the precise cause of the Adekunle corridor collision had not been established in the information provided.
