A 19-year-old woman, Aisha Musa, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command over an alleged attempt to poison her husband, just about 40 days after their marriage.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 12 in Gwamma village, Bauchi Local Government Area, where the suspect allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband’s food.
The husband became unwell after consuming the food and was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi. Police said he is currently receiving treatment and remains in stable condition.
According to the police, officers were alerted through a distress call from an anonymous woman and were quickly deployed to the location following the report.
The command said Musa was subsequently arrested and allegedly confessed during interrogation. The police stated that the State Criminal Investigation Department is handling the investigation.
“Suspect confessed. SCID investigating,” the command said in a post shared on its official X account on Thursday, August 13.
Investigators also recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the substance, along with remnants of the food allegedly involved in the incident. The items have been registered as exhibits as police continue their investigation.
The Bauchi State Police Command said inquiries into the alleged poisoning attempt are ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed what may have motivated the suspect or the specific substance allegedly used.
