Imo Police Arrest 26-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Attempt to Kill Girlfriend’s Sister

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, over an alleged attempt to kill his girlfriend’s 17-year-old sister in Owerri.

The suspect was accused of throwing the teenager, identified as Chiamaka Chukwuokore, from a two-storey building on Mbonu Ejike Street, Ikeneagbu, in the state capital.

The police disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, November 2, through the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye. According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 1pm on November 1, following an alleged altercation between Joseph and the teenager.

Chiamaka reportedly sustained severe injuries from the fall and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remained in critical condition as of the time of the police statement.

Following the incident, an angry crowd reportedly gathered at the scene and attempted to lynch the suspect. However, police operatives intervened and prevented the crowd from attacking him.

“The prompt intervention of the police operatives led to the successful rescue of the suspect, who was subsequently taken into police custody,” the statement said.

The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate legal action against the suspect.

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Audu Garba Bosso, assured residents that the command would conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that justice was served.

He also urged the public, particularly social media users, to avoid spreading unverified information about the incident. The police commissioner appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands and allow investigators to carry out their duties.
