Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior is reportedly determined to resolve his future this summer as uncertainty grows over his contract situation at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Brazilian superstar has just one year remaining on his current deal, raising concerns that he could enter the final months of his contract and potentially leave Real Madrid as a free agent if an agreement is not reached.
Premier League champions Arsenal have reportedly been monitoring the situation closely as they look to add another elite attacking player to Mikel Arteta’s squad. Reports suggest the Gunners’ hierarchy has approved a possible move for Vinicius, with Arteta said to be highly interested in bringing the winger to north London.
Despite Arsenal’s interest, Real Madrid remain determined to keep the 26-year-old forward. Reports indicate that José Mourinho has also advised Madrid’s decision-makers against allowing Vinicius to leave before the new season begins.
Vinicius himself is said to prefer staying at Real Madrid and wants to negotiate a new contract with the Spanish giants. The player reportedly hopes to reach an agreement quickly once discussions resume following his short break in his hometown of São Gonçalo.
Spanish journalist Tomás Roncero claimed that Vinicius has told people close to him that he does not want to leave Real Madrid without the club receiving financial compensation.
According to Roncero, Vinicius feels a strong sense of gratitude towards Madrid for investing €45 million in him when he was only 18 years old and still viewed as a long-term prospect rather than an established star.
Since joining Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2017, Vinicius has developed into one of the world’s leading forwards, registering 128 goals and 100 assists in 375 appearances while helping the club win 14 trophies, including three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns.
Arsenal remain interested despite the player’s preference for staying in Spain. The Gunners have already strengthened their squad this summer with attacking signing Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for around £34 million, alongside other additions including goalkeeper Illan Meslier and defender Piero Hincapie on a permanent deal from Bayer Leverkusen.
