Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed a return to South African Premier Division side Chippa United, months after leaving the club in search of a new challenge.

Nwabali had parted ways with the Chilli Boys in February 2026 after requesting the termination of his contract, hoping to secure a transfer to another club. However, the move failed to materialise, paving the way for his return to the Eastern Cape outfit.

Chippa United confirmed the Nigerian international’s comeback in a statement shared on the club’s official X account on Sunday, expressing delight at welcoming the experienced shot-stopper back to the squad.

“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys. After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club,” the statement read.

The return ends months of speculation surrounding the goalkeeper’s future, with reports previously linking him to clubs in Saudi Arabia and other leagues following his impressive performances for both club and country.

Nwabali initially joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and established himself as one of the club’s key players. During his first spell, he made 66 league appearances, earning widespread praise for his consistency between the posts.

The goalkeeper’s reputation soared after becoming Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, playing a crucial role in the Super Eagles’ run to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where his performances attracted interest from clubs outside South Africa.

With his return now confirmed, Chippa United will be hoping Nwabali’s experience and leadership can strengthen the squad ahead of the new season, while the goalkeeper will be eager to rediscover his best form and continue his place as Nigeria’s number one.
