Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has urged aspirants contesting for All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets in the state to embrace loyalty, discipline and sacrifice as the party begins its primary elections.

Speaking during a meeting with APC aspirants and party stakeholders at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Owerri, the governor cautioned politicians against desperation and unhealthy rivalry ahead of the primaries scheduled to commence on May 15, 2026.

Uzodinma described politics as “a game of courage” rather than a lottery, reminding aspirants that while some candidates would emerge victorious, others would inevitably lose.

The governor stressed the need for members to remain committed to the APC before, during and after the primary elections, regardless of the outcome.

He warned aspirants to carefully assess the risks associated with political contests, advising them not to spend money meant for family responsibilities, including children’s school fees, on political ambition.

According to him, the APC in Imo State will adopt the Option A4 voting system during the primaries in areas where consensus arrangements fail, in a move aimed at ensuring transparency and reducing allegations of favouritism.

Uzodinma also urged party members and stakeholders to respect existing equity and rotational arrangements within their communities to preserve unity and fairness.

The governor disclosed that both the APC Primary Election Committee and Appeal Committee had already been constituted to address grievances and complaints that may arise from the exercise.

He acknowledged the large number of aspirants seeking elective positions under the APC in Imo State, noting that the party was determined to conduct a process capable of producing acceptable outcomes for participants.

In his remarks, the Imo APC Chairman, Austin Onyedebelu, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to unity, reconciliation and electoral success ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Onyedebelu stated that the State Executive Committee had already initiated measures to reposition the party for greater efficiency, cohesion and political growth.

He admitted that disagreements could emerge during the primaries but assured members that reconciliation structures had been put in place to ensure a peaceful and rancour-free process.

The meeting forms part of ongoing political consultations within the APC as parties across Nigeria intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
