Barkin Ladi, Plateau State – At least five Fulani youths were killed in a violent attack in Plateau State, authorities and community sources report. The incident occurred on February 19 in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, raising fears over escalating communal tensions in the region.

Sources indicate that the victims were returning from Dorowan Babuje when they were ambushed around 7:00 p.m. in the Jong Fulani community. Eyewitnesses claim that suspected Berom militia members carried out the attack.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Tahiru Muhammad, Jibrin Salisu, and Abdulmumin Isyak. Disturbingly, reports indicate that one of the victims was beheaded, while the others were shot.

Security officials recovered empty 7.62mm Special cartridges at the scene, along with a motorcycle believed to belong to the victims.

A community source stated: “The family has been informed that security forces are on the trail of the attackers, but as usual, nothing may be done.”

The tragic event follows other recent violent incidents in Plateau State, underscoring ongoing security challenges and the vulnerability of Fulani communities in the area. Local authorities have yet to release an official statement on the attack.
