Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has explained why he stopped speaking publicly about his dispute with former manager Damilola Akinwumi, known as Dapper, saying the matter is now under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The singer had previously accused Dapper of withholding royalties linked to 46 of his songs, leading to a public dispute that spilled across social media. Shallipopi had also made several public statements challenging his former manager over the allegations.
He has now revealed that his legal team and the EFCC advised him to step back from the public confrontation while the matter is being investigated. The singer said continuing to discuss the case through his music or social media could interfere with the legal process.
Shallipopi said he had initially used his public platforms to defend himself and address the allegations, but now understands that an active investigation requires him to allow the relevant authorities to do their work.
The singer maintained that he stands by the claims he previously made but said he would no longer use songs, interviews or social media posts to comment on the dispute while the investigation continues.
The dispute between Shallipopi and Dapper has generated considerable attention within Nigeria’s music industry, with allegations and counter-allegations emerging publicly in recent weeks. Shallipopi had previously called on Dapper to respond to his accusations, while Dapper has also rejected claims made against him.
Shallipopi said the matter is particularly important to him because of the years he has invested in building his music career. He expressed hope that the ongoing process would ultimately establish the facts and deliver justice.
For now, the singer appears to be leaving the dispute in the hands of his lawyers and investigators rather than continuing the battle online. The EFCC has yet to publicly disclose the outcome of its investigation into the allegations.
