A man has been arrested in Osun State over the alleged killing of his mother following a dispute involving the family’s farmland, the state police command has said.
The suspect, identified as Taye Kasali of Bose Osi, was arrested on September 7 in connection with the disappearance and alleged murder of his mother, Kudirat Kasali.
The case came to light after a report was made at the Bode-Osi Police Division on September 1 that Kudirat and her son were missing. Police said an intelligence-led investigation subsequently led to Taye’s arrest and interrogation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspect allegedly confessed during questioning that he killed his mother on August 31. Police said he claimed she had repeatedly referred to him as a mad person and had threatened to lease out the family’s farmland, which he described as an important source of livelihood.
Police alleged that Taye subsequently buried his mother’s remains in a shallow grave on the family farm. Following his reported confession, officers said he took them to the location where the remains were recovered.
Investigators also recovered a machete at the scene, which police said was allegedly used in the killing. The remains have been taken for further procedures as the investigation continues.
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case. The command said the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
Zungura assured the public that the police would pursue justice in accordance with the law. He also urged residents to promptly report missing-person cases and suspicious activities to security agencies, noting that early reporting can assist investigations.
