Police Release Photo of Woman Found Dead in Calabar Hotel, Search for Male Guest Continues

The Cross River State Police Command has released a photograph of a woman found dead in a hotel in Calabar and appealed to the public for information that could help establish her identity and locate the man who lodged with her.

The woman was found dead earlier this month in a hotel room along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, after reportedly checking into the facility with an unidentified male guest whose whereabouts remain unknown.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the photograph was released to help anyone who recognised the deceased or had information about her family or associates contact the police.

The Command said preliminary investigations established that the woman lodged at the hotel with the male guest and that efforts were ongoing to locate him and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

The incident was first reported by the police on September 8, when the woman was found unresponsive in Room 2 of the hotel. Police said the receptionist discovered her after noticing that the room door was open. Investigators who examined the scene reportedly observed apparent marks of violence on her face and neck.

The woman was taken to the General Hospital, Calabar, where she was confirmed dead before her body was deposited at the mortuary. The receptionist who was on duty when the incident occurred remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with information about the guests and events leading up to the discovery.

The Police Command stressed that the receptionist’s detention should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt, saying any further action would depend on available evidence and follow due legal process.

Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed investigators to conduct the case professionally and objectively. The investigation is focused on identifying the deceased, establishing how she died, locating the male guest and determining the roles, if any, of other persons connected to the incident.
