2027: Ogun APM Chairman Says Tinubu Has Nothing More to Offer Nigeria, Backs Makinde

The Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State, Abayomi Sanyaolu, has said President Bola Tinubu should leave office at the end of his tenure in 2027 to allow a new generation of leaders to emerge. He also expressed support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as a potential national leader.

Sanyaolu made the remarks during the campaign flag-off of the APM and the unveiling of its candidate for the Ogun West Senatorial District in Ilaro, Ogun State. He argued that Nigeria needs a leader who understands the daily challenges facing ordinary citizens and can address the country’s development needs.

According to the APM chairman, his position was a personal political opinion rather than a condemnation of the current president. He said the country needed leadership that prioritises citizens’ welfare and creates opportunities for a new generation to contribute to national development.

Sanyaolu described Makinde as an experienced politician whose record in public service had prepared him for a greater leadership role. He said integrity, accountability, religious conviction and genuine concern for humanity should guide anyone seeking to lead the country.

The APM chairman also highlighted Ogun State’s place in Nigeria’s political and cultural history, referencing former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola and Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. He urged voters in Ogun Central to carefully assess candidates ahead of the 2027 elections and encouraged women to support capable female candidates.

Also speaking at the event, the APM governorship candidate, Babajide Rotimi, urged residents of Ogun West to vote for the party’s candidates in 2027. He said the district needed purposeful leadership to address its development challenges.

The party’s Ogun West senatorial candidate, Abiola Itakpe, pledged to prioritise infrastructure development if elected. He said improved public infrastructure was necessary to support economic growth and improve residents’ welfare.

Sanyaolu’s comments add to the political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APM chairman calling for a change in national leadership and expressing confidence in Makinde’s potential. His remarks reflect the party official’s stated political position, rather than an established outcome of the election.
