The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old barber, Emmanuel Olatonok, over the alleged killing of a 32-year-old man, Ibrahim Shago, following a disagreement in Dutse.
Olatonok was accused of stabbing Shago in the neck with a knife at Rafin Sanyi, within Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Police said the suspect, who reportedly worked at Moonlight Hotel in the area, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the disagreement took place.
Shago, a resident of Karnaya town, was rushed to a hospital after the attack but was pronounced dead by a doctor.
The incident reportedly drew a crowd of youths who attempted to attack the hotel where the suspect worked. However, police officers from the Dutse Division intervened and prevented the situation from escalating.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect remained in custody while investigators worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. He added that the suspect would be prosecuted after the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijjani Murtala, urged residents to resolve disagreements peacefully and avoid violence. He advised anyone with grievances to seek redress through lawful channels rather than resorting to self-help.
