VeryDarkMan Fires Back at Gehgeh, Other Influencers: “I No Rate Una”

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has dismissed criticism from content creator Gehgeh and other influencers over his decision to venture into the power-related products business.
In a video response, VDM said he did not consider the critics to be on his level, adding that he was unimpressed by their activities and influence on social media.
He accused some influencers of using their platforms primarily to promote betting, cryptocurrency, iTunes and gift card businesses instead of drawing attention to issues affecting Nigerians.
According to him, several influencers travel abroad, return with expensive cars and receive praise from their followers without using their platforms to demand solutions to the country’s challenges.
VDM was responding to criticism from Gehgeh, who had questioned his decision to import and sell power-related products and warned that he could eventually become part of the problems affecting Nigeria.
Defending his business decision, VDM said he travelled to China, where he discovered products he believed could make life easier for Nigerians. He said this informed his decision to bring the products into the country.
He also challenged other influencers to point to instances where they had supported his calls for the government to address national problems.
The activist further argued that some of those criticising him were capable of making comments online but lacked the ability to bring meaningful change.
“All this bunch of clowns talking, I no rate una,” he said.
He also dismissed comparisons between himself and musicians, declaring: “All of them, both the musicians, I’m not their mates.”
The exchange has brought attention to the disagreement over the role of social media influencers, their business interests and the extent to which they should use their platforms to address public issues.
