Imo Family Appeals for Help as River Erosion Threatens to Destroy Their Home

A family in Imo State has appealed to the state government and members of the public for urgent assistance after river erosion threatened to destroy their home.

A video shared on X by Somto Okonkwo on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, shows a woman appealing for intervention as erosion continues to eat away at the area around the family’s property.

The woman said the house represents years of financial sacrifice by her father and other members of the family, who contributed whatever they could towards its construction.

“I’m calling on the government of Imo State. I’m calling on everybody, anyone that can help at this point in time because I don’t know what to do,” she said.

She explained that the family had struggled financially to complete the building, contributing amounts ranging from ₦20,000 to ₦100,000 whenever they could. She said they now fear losing the property to the erosion.

The woman said the family had contacted an engineer to assess the situation and were told that the problem could be addressed by changing the direction of the river.

According to her, the engineer estimated that the work would cost about ₦10.5 million. She therefore appealed to the Imo State Government, social media personalities and members of the public who could assist the family.

She specifically mentioned VeryDarkMan and Tunde Ednut among those she hoped could help, adding that the situation had left her father exhausted.
