President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a bold initiative, the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), aimed at creating 2.5 million jobs annually for Nigerians. The announcement came during his Independence Day address on Tuesday, as the nation marked 64 years of independence.

Tinubu stated that LEEP, set to launch in November 2024, will focus on generating jobs both directly and indirectly, while ensuring workers’ welfare and safety across the country. The programme will be spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

“Later this month, we will officially launch the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP). This initiative is designed to create 2.5 million jobs annually, directly and indirectly, while also safeguarding the welfare and safety of Nigerian workers,” Tinubu said during his address.

In addition to the employment scheme, the president announced the commencement of a 30-day Youth Conference, aimed at addressing the economic challenges faced by Nigerian youth. The event will provide a platform for youths to express their concerns and ensure their recommendations are heard and implemented by the government.

President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that better days are ahead, encouraging citizens not to lose faith in the nation’s potential for progress and prosperity.
