Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has commended the Federal Government for initiating the programme ”Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA)” in the state.

Buni made the commendation on Monday when he received the Minister of State for Education, Chukuemeka Nwajiuba, in Damaturu.

Buni represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana, also commended Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for enlisting Yobe among the 17 beneficiary states.

He also lauded the World Bank for providing the credit support to strengthen universal basic education sector in the state.

He particularly thanked the minister for sparing time to visit Yobe for the review of the programme.

Earlier in his remarks, Nwajiuba stressed the need for accountability in the implementation of the programme in order to reduce the challenge of out-of-school children in the country.

The minister said his visit to Yobe was part of his tour to review the BESDA programme in the beneficiary states.

He added that the programme sought to support designated federal and state agencies in line with the specific objectives of increasing equitable access to education for out-of-school children.

He also said the programme was meant to improve literacy in focused states.

Nwajiuba noted that BESDA intervention focuses on states with the largest out-of-school children in the country. (NAN)
