Ghana Police Arrest Three Nigerians Over Alleged Bank Customer Robberies

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding communities in the Ashanti Region.

The suspects were identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, 35. A fourth alleged member of the group, identified as Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, is reportedly on the run.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and signed by the Head of its Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.

According to the police, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted at about 11:30 p.m. on October 31 by an Inspector-General of Police Special Team. The team comprised personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.

The operation initially led to the arrest of Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka at a hotel in Moshie Zongo. A search reportedly recovered GH¢1,600 in cash, several mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key suspected to have been used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.

The police said the two suspects allegedly admitted involvement in the robberies during interrogation and identified two other suspected accomplices, Kingsley, also known as KC, and Chinedu, alias Alhaji.

Acting on information obtained from the suspects, security operatives proceeded to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was arrested. Chinedu, however, remains at large, prompting the police to appeal for information that could lead to his arrest.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the syndicate allegedly monitored banking facilities, identified customers who withdrew substantial amounts of money and followed them before robbing them.

The suspects were also accused of breaking into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers with a master key to steal cash and other valuables.

The police further disclosed that the arrested suspects allegedly confessed to robbing a bank customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, shortly after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also reportedly admitted involvement in similar incidents around the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.

The three arrested suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have urged bank customers to remain vigilant, particularly when withdrawing large sums of money, and to watch out for suspicious individuals around banking premises.

The command also warned motorists against leaving cash and other valuables unattended inside their vehicles.

Members of the public with information about the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect have been encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Ghana Police Service through its emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling robbery and other criminal activities across the Ashanti Region while commending residents for their cooperation.
