Spanish Footballer Jesus de Miguel Dies After Collision with Goalkeeper

Spanish footballer Jesus de Miguel has died from injuries sustained in a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Spanish second-division match.
His club, CD Tenerife, announced his death in a statement on Tuesday, saying the 30-year-old died at 8:00 am local time following complications from the incident.
“Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe this is real, CD Tenerife announces the tragic death, at 8:00 am (7am GMT), of Jesus de Miguel Alameda,” the club said.
The incident occurred towards the end of the match between Tenerife and Andorra, which was level at 2-2. Owono, an Equatorial Guinea international, had rushed out of his goal and collided with De Miguel near the middle of the pitch. The goalkeeper was sent off following the incident, and the match was subsequently abandoned.
Spanish media reported that De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest and was resuscitated after the collision. Tenerife later disclosed that his neurological condition had deteriorated before confirming his death.
De Miguel joined Tenerife in the summer of 2025 from Castellon and had spent just over a season with the club. His death prompted tributes from across Spanish football.
Gerard Pique, former Barcelona defender and majority shareholder of FC Andorra, expressed his condolences in a social media post, writing: “I am so deeply sorry. Rest in peace, Jesus.”
FC Andorra also sent its “most sincere condolences” to De Miguel’s family, teammates and Tenerife. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and other Spanish clubs, alongside the Spanish Football Federation, also issued messages of sympathy.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation said it was deeply saddened by the player’s death, joining the wider football community in mourning his passing.
