Hansi Flick Blames Fatigue as Barcelona Lose 2-1 to Real Madrid in El Clasico

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has attributed his side’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid to fatigue after the Catalan club suffered their first loss of the season, according to reports.

Real Madrid secured the victory on Sunday, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice to give his side the advantage in the latest El Clasico encounter.

Mbappe opened the scoring after his effort deflected into the net, putting Madrid ahead. Barcelona responded through Raphinha, who restored parity and gave the home side hope of salvaging a result.

However, Mbappe struck again with three minutes remaining to seal the victory for Madrid and hand Barcelona their first defeat of the campaign.

Speaking after the match, Flick said Barcelona lacked the freshness needed to perform at their usual level. He pointed to the team’s demanding schedule, which had seen them play four matches in 12 days.

“We were not playing at the highest level because of the lack of freshness,” Flick said.

The German coach acknowledged the disappointment of losing but urged his players to accept the result and learn from the setback.

“It’s not top for us but we have to accept it and defeats is part of the game. It’s the first defeat in 10 games,” he added.

Flick also highlighted the opportunity to recover before Barcelona’s next fixture, saying the team had a full week to prepare and recharge.

“We have a whole week before the next game to prepare and disconnect,” he said.

The defeat gives Barcelona an opportunity to reassess their performance and manage player fatigue as the season continues, while Real Madrid take confidence from their victory over their rivals.
