Anyanwu Endorses Madumere for Imo East Senate Seat, Backs Governorship Ambition

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has endorsed former Imo State Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere for the Imo East Senatorial District seat, popularly known as Owerri Zone.
Anyanwu also declared that the party had put mechanisms in place to support Madumere’s emergence as the next governor of Imo State through the Rainbow Coalition.
He made the remarks at a PDP campaign rally held at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Iho, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.
Describing Madumere as the most qualified among the contestants in Owerri Zone, Anyanwu cited his political experience and the sensitive government positions he had previously occupied. He also argued that Madumere’s connections and reach would place him in a strong position to negotiate for the development of the zone.
Anyanwu said he had decided to hand over the leadership mantle in Owerri Senatorial District to Madumere, adding that he had not endorsed anyone to succeed him in the Senate since leaving the chamber. He also expressed confidence in the candidate’s ability to represent the zone.
The PDP National Secretary reaffirmed the party’s commitment to challenging its political opponents and described the Rainbow Coalition as a platform for bringing political stakeholders together. He identified himself as the coalition’s chairman in Imo State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as its national leader.
Anyanwu maintained that the coalition would remain active, criticising those opposed to the arrangement. He described it as a platform through which members could pursue their political aspirations and contribute to national development.
In his address, Madumere said he had engaged experts to conduct an aerial assessment of Owerri Zone and had also undertaken a needs assessment to identify the priorities of residents. He promised to continue projects initiated during Anyanwu’s time in the Senate and work towards completing ongoing ones.
Madumere further disclosed that his political ambition extended beyond the Senate, saying he intended to help the PDP reclaim the Imo governorship. He predicted that more people would join the party in the coming weeks and urged members to welcome new entrants and support their registration.
The senatorial candidate said he was seeking the mandate of Owerri Zone residents to provide accessible and effective representation in the National Assembly. He listed youth opportunities, women’s economic empowerment, federal projects and policies to improve living standards among his proposed priorities.
The PDP State Chairman, Barrister Austin Nwachukwu, also declared that the party remained active and urged members to demonstrate commitment, resilience and courage as the elections approached.
