United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has appointed Emmanuel Nnorom as its new Group Chairman, bringing an experienced banking executive back into a key leadership role as the pan-African financial institution enters its next phase of growth.

Nnorom takes over the chairmanship with more than 40 years of experience spanning banking, finance, risk management and corporate leadership. His long association with UBA also gives him deep knowledge of the group’s operations and business across Africa.

Before his appointment as chairman, Nnorom served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, overseeing the bank’s operations in 18 African countries. He also previously served as Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Chief Financial Officer and was a Non-Executive Director on the UBA board.

His earlier roles at UBA included Executive Director of Finance and Executive Director of Risk. Those positions gave him experience across the financial, operational and risk-management functions of the institution.

Outside UBA, Nnorom has held senior positions in Nigeria’s corporate sector. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc from 2014 to 2017 before moving to Heirs Holdings, where he currently serves as Group Chief Executive Officer.

His appointment comes as UBA continues to expand its pan-African operations while investing in digital banking and strengthening its international presence. The bank has built operations across multiple African markets as well as a growing footprint beyond the continent.

Nnorom’s return to the top leadership structure provides a mix of institutional experience and wider corporate exposure. His previous work across finance, risk, operations and African business management positions him to play a central role in shaping the group’s strategy as it pursues further growth.

For UBA, the appointment represents both continuity and a fresh direction. The bank will now look to Nnorom to strengthen governance, consolidate its existing gains and guide the group through its next stage of expansion across Africa and international markets.
