A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola, Adamawa State, has remanded a 22-year-old man, Habu Hellere Dauda, over the alleged knife-point robbery of a nine-year-old boy.
Dauda, a resident of Rumde Makera in Jimeta, was accused of attacking the child, identified as Aliyu Mohammed, on Ajiya Street, Jimeta, and allegedly taking N600 from him.
Police prosecutor Danjuma Hamidu told Chief Magistrate Court 3 that the incident occurred on Sunday, August 9. The prosecution brought Dauda before the court and requested his remand to allow it to present a witness to corroborate his plea.
When the First Information Report was read and interpreted to him, Dauda pleaded guilty to the allegations. The prosecution subsequently sought an order keeping him in custody pending further proceedings.
Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi granted the application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody. The court adjourned the case until Monday, August 17, for corroboration and possible summary trial.
Dauda is facing charges of criminal intimidation and shilla gangsterism under Sections 382 and 346 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State.
The court’s decision to remand the defendant means the case will proceed to the next stage of hearing, where the prosecution is expected to present evidence in support of the allegations.
