Kano Court Orders Special Care for Man Who Cut Off Finger Over N80m Sorcery Deal

A Sharia Court sitting in Jogana, Kano State, has ordered correctional authorities to provide special care and adequate medical attention to Yusuf Mahmud Rano, a defendant accused of cutting off his finger after allegedly being promised N80 million for it.

The court issued the directive on Monday while continuing proceedings in a case involving Yusuf and four other defendants accused of conspiracy and attempted sorcery.

The case was expected to reach judgment on Monday, but the presiding judge, Malam Kamalu Haruna, said the court could not deliver its ruling as scheduled because government lawyers were expected to participate in the proceedings.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter until Thursday, September 17, 2026, directing that the first to fourth defendants remain in custody until the next hearing.

Haruna also directed the Kano State Correctional Service to ensure Yusuf receives appropriate medical attention while in custody, given the circumstances surrounding his alleged injury.

The case has drawn attention because of the extraordinary allegation that Yusuf harmed himself after reportedly being promised N80 million to provide his finger for a purported sorcery-related purpose.

However, the allegations remain before the court, and the defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence until the case is determined.

The court’s latest order means attention will now shift to Thursday’s proceedings, when the government lawyers are expected to participate and the court could take further steps towards determining the case.
