Osun Amotekun Hands Four Operatives to Police Over Ile-Ife Killing

The Osun State Amotekun Corps has clarified that four of its operatives were voluntarily handed over to the police for investigation into the killing of Accord chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, in Ile-Ife.
The corps made the clarification following reports that the operatives had been arrested by the Osun State Police Command in connection with the incident. Amotekun said the men were instead made available to investigators to help establish what happened during the violence.
In a statement issued on Monday, the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, said the four operatives were attached to Nurudeen Alowonle, a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Osun State.
According to the corps, Commander Adekunle Isaac Omoyele personally handed the operatives over to the police. The move, it said, was aimed at ensuring transparency and allowing the appropriate security authorities to question the men about the circumstances surrounding the attacks.
Oyeyemi was killed during a clash at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife on September 13, 2026. Following the incident, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke directed relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances of the killing and identify those responsible.
The incident occurred amid tensions over the management of motor parks in the state. Oyeyemi was reportedly being considered for appointment as chairman of the Park Management System, which the Osun State Government planned to establish to take over the management of public motor parks from the NURTW.
Amotekun stressed that the police did not arrest the four operatives. Idowu urged the public and media organisations to distinguish between an arrest and the voluntary handover of individuals for questioning during an investigation.
The corps also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline and accountability, saying it would continue to cooperate with other security agencies and would not tolerate conduct capable of undermining public confidence in Osun’s security system.
