Fresh tensions have emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after party chieftain Bode George announced plans to sue the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over allegations linking his Abuja property to funds from Rivers State.
The dispute follows comments made by Wike during a media chat in Abuja, where the former Rivers State governor challenged George to explain how he acquired a house in the Maitama district of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike alleged that the property was purchased with money connected to Rivers State.
Reacting during an appearance on TVC News on Wednesday night, George strongly denied the allegation, describing it as false and insisting he had no connection to Rivers State funds.
“How was my house in Abuja bought with Rivers fund? I’m going to take him to court,” George said, adding, “I’m sure he was high on something.”
The PDP elder statesman also clarified that he did not build the Maitama property but purchased it legally. He questioned the basis of Wike’s claim, arguing that he had no reason or opportunity to obtain funds from Rivers State.
“I didn’t even build the house, I bought the house and it is still there. Am I from Rivers State that I will go there and collect funds? I’m not like him,” George stated.
During the interview, George also made personal remarks about Wike, alleging that the FCT minister had been disowned by his father. The allegation has not been independently verified, and Wike has not publicly responded to the latest comments as of the time of filing this report.
The exchange marks another public confrontation between two influential figures in the PDP, highlighting the internal divisions that have continued to shape the party’s politics in recent years. It remains unclear when George intends to file the proposed lawsuit.
