The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged assault and public humiliation of a resident whose ordeal was captured in a viral video that sparked widespread outrage on social media.
The victim, Boluwaji Temidayo, was reportedly accused of making a fake bank transfer to a Point of Sale (POS) operator. A video circulating online showed a group of youths physically assaulting him and forcing him to dance with a POS machine balanced on his head while the incident was recorded.
Condemning the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the victim formally reported the matter at the Okuta Elerinla Police Station on Thursday.
According to the police spokesperson, Temidayo told investigators that he was attacked by several individuals who assaulted him, recorded the incident without his consent and later shared the footage across multiple social media platforms. He said the attack occurred on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Following the complaint, the police launched what they described as a discreet, technology-driven investigation, using digital intelligence and forensic tools to identify those involved in both the assault and the circulation of the video.
The investigation led to the arrest of Gbemisola Ariyo, Babatunde Eniola, Adams Tobiloba and Fasusi Bunmi, who are believed to have actively participated in the attack and the recording and distribution of the viral footage.
In a statement, DSP Jimoh said:
“Upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives immediately commenced a discreet and technology-driven forensic investigation into the viral video, deploying digital intelligence and other investigative resources to identify those involved in the alleged assault and unlawful dissemination of the footage.”
He added that the four suspects have been taken into custody as investigations continue, with the command reiterating its commitment to protecting residents from mob justice, assault and other forms of unlawful treatment.
The Ondo State Police Command also urged members of the public to report suspected crimes to law enforcement agencies instead of taking the law into their own hands, warning that anyone found engaging in acts of violence or public humiliation would face prosecution.
