Chidinma Reveals She ‘Ran Away’ From Nigeria Before Gospel Music Career

Nigerian singer Chidinma Ekile has revealed that she once left Nigeria intending to settle abroad permanently before eventually returning and transitioning from secular music to gospel music.

The singer made the revelation at a recent event organised by Eezee Conceptz, where she spoke about the circumstances that led to her decision to pursue gospel music and deepen her relationship with God.

According to Chidinma, she travelled abroad and began processing documents that would allow her to remain there permanently because she did not want to return to Nigeria. However, her plans did not work out as she had expected.

“I travelled. I ran away from Nigeria. I was processing my papers not to come back to Nigeria, but for some reason, it didn’t work,” she said.

Chidinma explained that while she was abroad, the chief executive officer of Eezee Conceptz was the only person from Nigeria who consistently contacted her. She said his calls and encouragement helped her find the motivation to return.

After coming back to Nigeria, the singer approached the music executive and requested a gospel music contract, explaining that her decision was driven by a desire to spend more time with God.

“When I came back, I asked him to give me a gospel music contract because I want to spend time with God,” she said.

The singer also disclosed that the contract offered by Eezee Conceptz was so favourable that even her lawyer viewed it as unusually generous.

“He gave me a contract that even my lawyer said seemed like a charity,” she added.

Chidinma stressed that her transition into gospel music was not initially motivated by a desire to make gospel songs as a career choice. Rather, she said her primary motivation was to develop a serious relationship with God.

Her account offers insight into the personal considerations behind her musical transition, highlighting the role she says faith and encouragement played in her return to Nigeria and subsequent career direction.

Chidinma first became widely known through secular music before embracing gospel music. Her latest comments have provided further details about the personal journey that preceded that change.
