The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards has unveiled Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts for its 12th edition, marking a major shift in one of Africa’s biggest entertainment nights.
The announcement officially brings an end to IK Osakioduwa’s long-standing tenure as AMVCA host. He has anchored the awards since its inception in 2013, presenting the show for 11 consecutive editions and becoming one of its most recognisable faces.
This year’s organisers described the new hosting duo as a blend of humour, storytelling, and global screen influence, positioning the pairing as part of a refreshed vision for the prestigious ceremony.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the organisers referred to the duo as “a master of wit and narrative, and a global icon of screen and advocacy,” adding that the collaboration represents a meeting point of excellence and African creativity.
Bovi is widely known for his sharp comedic delivery and storytelling style, while Nomzamo Mbatha has built a strong international profile through acting and humanitarian advocacy, making them a cross-continental pairing for the 2026 edition.
The AMVCA remains one of Africa’s most prestigious film and television awards, and anticipation is already building around how the new hosts will shape the tone of the ceremony.
Beyond the hosting announcement, organisers also confirmed strong competition among this year’s nominees. Gingerrr and The Herd lead the pack with nine nominations each, spanning acting, directing, and technical categories.
To Kill A Monkey follows closely with eight nominations, while My Father’s Shadow, directed by the Davies brothers, secured seven nominations across multiple categories.
Veteran actress Joke Silva has also been named head judge for the 12th edition, adding further industry weight to the judging panel.
The 2026 AMVCA ceremony is scheduled to hold on May 9 at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, bringing together Africa’s biggest names in film, television, and entertainment.
