Owerri, Imo State – Seplat Energy Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy firms, has empowered 25 journalists from across Imo State through a two-day intensive media capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing professional skills and digital storytelling expertise.
The workshop, held in Owerri, convened journalists from print and electronic media outlets for sessions focused on communication, writing, and emerging trends in digital media. The initiative is part of Seplat Energy’s commitment to human capital development and fostering media partnerships that support transparency and national growth.
During the opening remarks, Stanley Opara, Manager of Corporate Communications, representing the Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, Chioma Afe, highlighted the company’s dedication to embedding global best practices within the media landscape. “Excellence is cardinal in everything we do. The media’s role in shaping narratives makes it essential to promote professional standards and innovation, which Seplat Energy fully supports,” Opara said.
The Base Manager of Eastern Assets, Emmanuel Otokhine, urged participants to seize the learning opportunity to strengthen career adaptability, leverage transferable skills, and explore emerging prospects in media entrepreneurship.
Expert facilitators led practical and interactive sessions. Dr. Solomon Avbioroko delved into communication psychology, professional interaction, and self-awareness in journalism. Media consultant Nnamdi Uwaemulem demonstrated mobile video journalism (MOJO), covering storytelling, smartphone filming techniques, and editing. His session on Media Transformation and Emerging Opportunities also highlighted digital disruption and entrepreneurial pathways for journalists.
Additionally, digital marketing expert Abiola Adedeji guided participants on social media strategy and data-driven storytelling, showing how platforms like X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube can enhance audience engagement and journalistic impact.
