Comedian and actor Seyi Law has clashed with Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, after Shehu described President Bola Tinubu as a “drug baron.”
The controversy began after Shehu Abubakar reacted to a recent remark by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who labelled Nigeria a “disgraced country” while threatening possible military intervention over alleged persecution of Christians.
Trump’s statement quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter), sparking the hashtag #DisgracedCountry and dividing public opinion between those angered by his comment and others who viewed it as justified criticism.
Joining the conversation, Shehu Abubakar wrote that Nigerians should not be offended by Trump’s words, arguing that electing a “drug baron” as president was itself disgraceful. “Why are some upset that Donald Trump called us disgraceful? When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that? Prideful?” he posted.
Seyi Law, a known supporter of President Tinubu, fired back on X, accusing Shehu of hypocrisy and reminding him of allegations once levelled against his father during the Obasanjo administration. “This is coming from someone whose father was called a thief by his principal and indicted as a money launderer in the US,” Seyi Law wrote.
He also referenced a past controversy involving Atiku’s campaign team, alleging that the politician once deleted a handler’s tweet over the killing of a student named Deborah. “Na really wa,” the comedian concluded, using Nigerian street slang to express disbelief.
The online exchange has since reignited debates about Nigeria’s political integrity, historical allegations, and the increasingly personal tone of political discourse on social media.
