A Nigerian-born legal practitioner, Mrs Margaret Obi, has been appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales, marking a significant milestone in the British judicial system.

Her appointment was celebrated by former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who described the development as “historic and inspiring.”

In a post on X titled “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders,” Obi noted that Mrs Obi is the first African-born person to achieve such a position within the judiciary of England and Wales.

“Her elevation reflects hard work, integrity, and professional excellence,” Obi wrote, commending her over 27 years of legal practice and seven years of judicial service.

He clarified that despite the shared surname, Mrs Margaret Obi is not his wife, explaining that his spouse formally identifies as Mrs Margaret Peter-Obi.

Peter Obi lauded Mrs Obi’s achievement as a symbol of Nigeria’s vast human potential and a testament to what Nigerians can accomplish when given opportunities in merit-based systems.

“Such accomplishments should motivate us to build a nation that nurtures excellence within its own borders,” he added.
