The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide has paid a solidarity visit to the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, in Enugu, calling for collaboration on regional development and cultural preservation.

Led by former Minister of Power and Vice Chancellor of the University on the Niger, Professor Chinedu Nebo, the delegation described Senator Azuta-Mbata’s emergence as Ohanaeze leader as “a symbol of unity, excellence, and renewed hope for Ndigbo.”

The elders’ visit centred on securing Ohanaeze’s support for the forthcoming Great Igbo Achievers’ Legacy Day Celebration, an event designed to honour distinguished Igbo personalities and preserve the region’s rich heritage.

According to a statement jointly signed by Justice Alpha Ikpeama, UNIEC’s Director-General, and Professor Obasi Igwe, the National Director of Media and Publicity, the project aims to celebrate merit, integrity, and transformational leadership while strengthening cultural identity across generations.

Professor Nebo revealed that the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, had approved the hosting of the event at the Enugu Smart City and endorsed the inclusion of the administration’s achievements in the forthcoming Igbo Book of Records — a landmark publication set for unveiling during the celebration.

“The Igbo Book of Records will serve as a global reference for Igbo heritage and achievement,” Nebo said. “Those honoured will have their names permanently documented and featured in the Great Igbo Achievers’ Wikipedia Entry.”

He added that the initiative represents a “living monument” to Igbo resilience, unity, and global impact, expressing confidence that under Senator Azuta-Mbata’s leadership, the project would gain legitimacy and institutional strength.
