A dismissed Catholic nun, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Kinse, has claimed she possesses video and audio evidence proving she was sexually harassed by a priest while serving under the Auchi Catholic Diocese in Edo State.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” on Monday, Kinse alleged that she was dismissed from her role at Veritas University, Abuja, after exposing what she described as “sexual rot” within the Church.
“It’s not as if the evidence that I was sexually harassed by a priest does not exist — they do — but I cannot put them out there,” she said.
“I have a video and an audio recording that shows where the Veritas HOD harassed me.”
The former nun explained that her troubles began shortly after joining the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters in 2015, where she repeatedly reported cases of harassment and inappropriate conduct by priests to her superiors.
She recounted several encounters, including one where a priest allegedly tried to touch her inappropriately after inviting her into his room.
“I told my superior about it, but she told me to ignore him,” she said. “Another priest once asked me to travel with him to his parish for a week, which I declined. One even put his belt around my waist, saying he wanted to check my size to buy me clothes. That broke me and caused a trauma they later termed madness.”
Kinse claimed that despite raising multiple complaints with her Superior-General and Bishop, no action was taken. Instead, she was labelled “difficult” and later dismissed, allegedly to silence her from speaking out.
She maintained that her decision to reveal the alleged misconduct stemmed from a desire to expose systemic abuse and hypocrisy within the Church hierarchy.
Neither the Auchi Diocese nor Veritas University has publicly responded to the nun’s allegations as of the time of this report.
