Man United Identify Unai Emery, Julian Nagelsmann as Potential Carrick Replacements

Manchester United have reportedly identified Unai Emery and Julian Nagelsmann as potential replacements for head coach Michael Carrick if the club decides to end his tenure at Old Trafford.
According to The Guardian, the two managers are among the leading candidates being considered by the club’s hierarchy as pressure mounts on Carrick following a difficult run of results.
United’s reported search for alternatives comes after a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, which has intensified scrutiny of Carrick’s position. The report also claims the club have endured their worst start to a season since 1986.
Carrick is under growing pressure after United reportedly went seven consecutive matches without a victory across all competitions. Despite the speculation over his future, he is still expected to lead the team in Sunday’s Premier League home fixture against Bournemouth.
Emery, who currently manages Aston Villa, is one of the names reportedly admired by United’s board members. The Spaniard has built a reputation through his work in European football, but any move for him would involve his existing commitment to Villa, where his contract reportedly runs until 2029.
Nagelsmann is another candidate linked with the position. The German coach previously managed the Germany national team and left the role following Euro 2024. The supplied report describes him as currently unemployed.
United’s reported interest in the two coaches comes as the club faces questions over its performances and the direction of its campaign. However, no appointment has been confirmed, and the reported candidates remain possibilities should the club decide to part ways with Carrick.
