Kemi Afolabi Condemns Those Who Celebrate Others’ Pain, Death

Nollywood actress Kemi Afolabi has criticised people who celebrate the suffering or death of others, describing such behaviour as “diabolical.”
The actress expressed her displeasure in an Instagram post on Friday, reminding people that death is inevitable and urging them not to rejoice over another person’s misfortune.
“We all are gonna bite the dust. Your jubilation over another’s afflictions or death is diabolical,” Afolabi wrote.
Her comments come as she continues to deal with health challenges linked to lupus, an autoimmune disease. In August, the actress reportedly disclosed that she had undergone multiple surgeries in 2026 following a lupus flare.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues. Depending on the individual, it can affect different parts of the body and may require ongoing medical care.
Afolabi had previously spoken publicly about her condition. In 2022, she revealed that her doctor had told her she had five more years to live, a disclosure that drew attention to her health struggles.
The actress’s latest message focused on how people respond to the pain and loss experienced by others. She condemned the celebration of another person’s suffering or death, stressing that everyone is mortal.
Her statement has renewed attention on the importance of showing compassion towards people facing illness, hardship and personal loss rather than treating their struggles as a reason for celebration.
