La Liga: Raphinha Hits Hat-Trick as Barcelona Thrash Racing Santander 7-2

Raphinha produced a stunning attacking display on Wednesday night, scoring a hat-trick as Barcelona demolished Racing Santander 7-2 to maintain their three-point lead at the top of La Liga.

The Brazilian forward was central to Barcelona’s dominant performance, scoring three times as the Catalan giants continued their impressive scoring run under Hansi Flick.

Barcelona opened the scoring through Joao Cancelo, whose powerful long-range strike gave the hosts an early advantage. Raphinha then doubled the lead from the penalty spot after winning a spot-kick.

Racing briefly responded through Maguette Gueye, who forced his way through the Barcelona defence before finishing past goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

Barcelona quickly regained control, with another Cancelo effort taking a deflection off Asier Villalibre and ending up in the Racing net. Raphinha then added his second after Dani Olmo played him through on goal.

Barcelona continued to create chances despite the difficult weather conditions at Camp Nou. Lamine Yamal missed a penalty after Karim Adeyemi was brought down inside the box, while Yamal later struck the post and had another goal ruled out for offside.

Garcia was replaced at half-time by Wojciech Szczesny after appearing to suffer a knee problem when he slipped on the wet pitch. Flick said the goalkeeper had “some problems” with his knee but expressed hope that he would be available for the weekend.

Racing managed to score again after Szczesny made an error while attempting to play out from the back, allowing Yassir Zabiri to reduce the deficit.

Barcelona responded almost immediately. Adeyemi was brought down in the box to earn another penalty, and Raphinha stepped up to complete his hat-trick. The goal took his league tally to nine, strengthening his position at the top of the scoring chart.

Gabriel Jesus then added Barcelona’s sixth after being set up by Yamal, before the teenage winger finally got his name on the scoresheet to complete the seven-goal demolition.

The victory means Barcelona have now scored 33 goals in seven matches across all competitions, underlining their attacking form early in the campaign.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid strengthened their position in the top four with a 4-0 victory over Osasuna, recording their second consecutive win ahead of Sunday’s derby against Real Madrid.

Jonathan David opened the scoring for Atletico after his initial effort was saved, before Lee Kang-in doubled the advantage early in the second half.

Robin Le Normand added Atletico’s third in the 63rd minute, while Alex Baena completed the victory after receiving a perfectly weighted pass from Johnny Cardoso.

The result moved Atletico into third place, while Sevilla climbed to fourth after a 1-0 victory away to Deportivo La Coruna.

Barcelona’s victory keeps the pressure on Real Madrid, who had temporarily moved level with the Catalan side after beating Elche 3-2 on Tuesday.
