The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down 12 businesses across the Ijora Causeway and Apapa areas over persistent violations of environmental regulations, reinforcing its crackdown on polluting facilities across the state.
The agency announced the enforcement action on Thursday, saying the affected establishments had repeatedly ignored environmental directives despite receiving several warnings, abatement notices and opportunities to comply with regulatory requirements.
According to LASEPA, the businesses failed to implement corrective measures issued by the agency, leaving authorities with no option but to seal the facilities in the interest of public health and environmental safety.
The affected establishments include Helmar Building Materials, Laprivad Nigeria Ltd, Innocast Nigeria Ltd, Body Language Shipping and Cargo, Laodo Control Jetty, Adaps Nigeria Ltd, Kehdi Equipments Ltd, Bulus Hotel, Park Inn Hotel, Mandarin Supermarket, Hamada Enterprises and Infinity Pirelli Tyres.
LASEPA said the enforcement exercise demonstrates its commitment to ensuring businesses operate in line with environmental standards aimed at reducing pollution and safeguarding residents across Lagos State.
The agency’s General Manager, Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed that LASEPA would continue monitoring businesses and enforcing compliance with environmental regulations across the state. He warned that organisations whose operations threaten public health or damage the environment would continue to face sanctions.
Ajayi described environmental protection as a shared responsibility, calling on businesses, organisations and residents to work together in creating a cleaner and healthier Lagos. He urged facility owners to adopt environmentally responsible practices and fully comply with all regulatory requirements.
He also encouraged residents to support the agency’s efforts by promoting environmental responsibility in their communities, stressing that sustained cooperation is essential to building a safer, cleaner and pollution-free Lagos.
