Man Dies After Allegedly Consuming Insecticide Following Relationship Dispute in Lagos

A man identified as Abiodun has died after allegedly consuming insecticide following a disagreement with his girlfriend in the Idimu area of Lagos State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday in the Ire Akari area after the woman allegedly told him she no longer wished to continue their relationship.

Abiodun, said to be in his early 30s, was reportedly arguing with his longtime girlfriend when she announced her decision to end the relationship. He allegedly became distressed and drank the contents of an insecticide container he was holding.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the man was rushed to a hospital along Powerline Road, where he later died.

“He was having issues with his girlfriend, and it later resulted in an argument on Saturday evening. She eventually told him that she was no longer interested in the relationship and stepped out of the house. By the time she returned, Abiodun had already consumed insecticide. He was rushed to a hospital on Powerline Road, where he later died,” the resident said.

The source added that Abiodun’s mother, who works at a supermarket in the area, was alerted by neighbours and made efforts to secure medical attention for her son.

According to the resident, she tried to raise money for the medical expenses and returned to the hospital with prescribed drugs on Sunday morning, only to be informed that he had died.

The source further disclosed that Abiodun was buried on Monday. Meanwhile, the whereabouts of his girlfriend have reportedly remained unknown since the incident.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she was unaware of the incident and promised to obtain further details. However, she had yet to provide an update as of the time of reporting.
