The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has expressed sadness over the death of former General Manager of Heartland Football Club, Promise Uchenna Nwachukwu, describing his passing as a significant loss to Nigerian football.
Nwachukwu was widely known for his contributions to football administration, particularly during his time at Heartland FC, where he played a key role in the club’s management and development. He also served as Coordinator of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Club Owners Association, contributing to discussions and initiatives aimed at advancing the domestic game.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of Imo SWAN, Cosmos Chukwuemeka, and the chapter’s Secretary, Tunde Liadi, the association paid tribute to his commitment and service to football administration.
The association noted that Nwachukwu remained passionate about the growth of the sport and worked diligently in the various positions he occupied throughout his career.
“We have lost a committed football administrator whose passion and selfless service left a lasting impact on Heartland FC and the Nigerian game,” Chukwuemeka said.
Imo SWAN described his death as a painful moment for the football community, adding that his contributions to the development of football would continue to be remembered by colleagues and stakeholders within the sport.
The association also extended its condolences to Nwachukwu’s family, friends, professional associates and members of the football community who are mourning his passing.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire football community. May God grant them the strength to bear this painful loss, and may his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
Nwachukwu’s death has added to the list of losses recorded within Nigeria’s football fraternity, with tributes continuing to pour in from stakeholders who worked alongside him during his years of service.
