The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has completed the screening of 106 aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the State House of Assembly elections.
The screening exercise, conducted by a committee headed by Chief Judith Enanutor, covered aspirants from the 27 local government areas that make up the state constituencies in the Imo State Assembly.
Speaking on the development, the party’s spokesperson, Dr Jones Onwuasoanya, confirmed that the screening process had been concluded but urged aspirants and party members to wait for the official publication of cleared candidates.
According to him, the list of qualified aspirants will be released on Wednesday, May 13, stressing that no candidate has yet been officially declared cleared or disqualified.
“The list of qualified aspirants will be published on Wednesday. As at now, there is no list of qualified or disqualified aspirants,” Onwuasoanya said.
He added that the party was following due process and warned against speculation surrounding the outcome of the screening exercise.
“13th is the scheduled date for publication of names of qualified aspirants. They have to wait until the official list is released. The correct number of House of Assembly aspirants is 106,” he stated.
The APC spokesperson also dismissed reports suggesting that some aspirants had protested alleged disqualification from the exercise.
According to him, any claims regarding disqualification remain unverified until the official list is released by the party.
Reacting to the reports, Onwuasoanya maintained that no confirmed case of protest had been recorded by the party leadership.
The screening exercise comes as political activities intensify ahead of the party primaries, with aspirants across the state seeking to secure APC tickets for the forthcoming elections.
Imo remains one of the key APC-controlled states in the South-East, making the contest for party tickets highly competitive among political hopefuls.
