Nigerian rapper Oludemilade Martin Alejo, popularly known as YCee, has refused to apologise for his controversial remarks about TikTok personality Peller, saying he remains firm on his criticism despite the backlash.
The rapper addressed the controversy during an interview with Cool FM Lagos, where he said some people had questioned his decision to mention Peller by name. YCee, however, insisted that he had no reason to retract his comments.
“Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said,” he said, adding that people who felt offended should examine their own reaction.
YCee also rejected suggestions that his comments were aimed at streamers and content creators as a whole. He said his criticism was specifically directed at what he described as “brain-rot” content and the growing popularity of material he considers unintelligent.
The rapper further criticised what he called the “olodo uprising”, arguing that the backlash had shown him just how widespread support for such content had become.
According to YCee, his criticism should not be interpreted as an attempt to discourage intelligent Nigerians from becoming streamers or content creators. Instead, he said there was a need for more people with substance to enter the space.
“My call is to people that are tired of brain-rot content. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators,” he said.
The controversy began after YCee appeared on the Afropolitan Podcast, where he criticised what he described as the increasing acceptance of ignorant and unintelligent content in Nigeria. His mention of Peller during the discussion drew strong reactions online, including responses from Peller and his fiancée, Jarvis.
YCee has now restated his position, maintaining that his comments were taken out of context while making it clear that he intends to continue criticising the kind of online content he believes contributes to what he calls the “olodo uprising.”
