Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made public by former presidential aide Bahir Ahmad on Monday via his X account. Yusuf Buhari plans to run for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency in Katsina State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” Ahmad wrote.

Yusuf’s decision comes after a series of consultations with political stakeholders in the constituency. His late father served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 until his death on July 13, 2025.

Political observers note that Yusuf’s entry into the race marks a new chapter for the Buhari political legacy and could significantly influence electoral dynamics in Katsina State.
