The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following his screening and approval during plenary on Thursday.
Darma’s confirmation came just a day after President Bola Tinubu forwarded his name to the Senate as a replacement for the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
During Wednesday’s sitting, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s communication to lawmakers and subsequently referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for legislative consideration.
The process moved swiftly, with lawmakers completing the screening and confirming Darma in line with parliamentary procedures.
Darma previously served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a role in which he was involved in overseeing capacity development and technical advancement in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
His confirmation marks a fresh adjustment in President Tinubu’s cabinet as the administration continues to restructure key ministries ahead of ongoing governance priorities.
The Senate is expected to transmit its resolution to the Presidency for formal appointment and swearing-in in the coming days.
Political observers say the appointment reflects continued efforts to reposition the housing and urban development sector amid ongoing national infrastructure demands.
