The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman in Onitsha over the alleged sexual abuse of a minor after officers received information about a trending video linked to the case.
The arrest was made on the evening of September 10, 2026, following open-source intelligence gathered by the police. Four children, aged two, three, six and nine, were also rescued during the operation.
The police said sex toys and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation were recovered from the location.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish what happened and determine whether other people were involved. Her husband has also been questioned over any possible connection to the alleged offence.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnanna Ama, described the alleged abuse as unacceptable, stressing the vulnerability of the children involved.
He directed a thorough investigation and ordered that the rescued children receive immediate protection and welfare support.
Police said the children would be handed over to appropriate child-protection and support agencies for care, counselling and other assistance. The Command also said their identities and privacy would be protected throughout the process.
The police commended local vigilante operatives, bloggers and residents whose information assisted the investigation and led to the arrest.
